Pellet Inserts

A pellet insert turns an open fireplace, which takes more heat out of the home than it provides, into a highly efficient and easy to control heat source without losing the charm, ambiance, and comfort of a real wood fire. And there's no mess!

However, no mess doesn't mean no maintenance. A pellet insert is a complex machine which utilizes three fans - one for the pellet hopper, one to blow warm air into the room and one to blow exhaust up the flue - meaning that regular cleaning is required in order for it to continue to operate at peak condition.

If you are looking for a solution which involves little or no effort and which will operate in a power outage without using a generator read no further because a pellet insert is not for you. Instead, click HERE.

So who would want a pellet insert? Pellet inserts work well for people who want the convenience and control offered by gas, but who do not have natural gas as an option at their location (liquid propane can be cost prohibitive to use as a primary source of heat).

In picking an insert, consider whether you want one made of steel or cast iron. Steel delivers high amounts of heat in a short period of time but it also cools quite quickly when you stop supplying it with fuel. Cast iron provides more comfortable, even heat over much longer periods of time - it is also significantly more expensive than steel to produce, meaning that cast iron inserts will tend to cost more.

When installed, the insert simply sits inside your masonry firebox, then a liner is run up your flue and a cap seals the unit at the top. As mentioned, the insert will need to plug into a 110 volt power outlet. Once again, this means that a pellet insert will not function in a power outage unless it is connected to a compatible generator.
